The Aguilera Brothers are a total of 12 siblings who have been very well known in the West Valley Region of Costa Rica for their incredible coffee. The family has been growing coffee for the past 60 years and more than 15 years ago the family decided to focus on the production of specialty coffee. Emerging in the new world of the specialty coffee in the earlies 2000’s helped the family grow their business and put their name in the Cup of Excellence editions in Costa Rica, for the past 15 years the family has always been awarded for the exceptional coffees. The family has different farms where they producer over 35 different coffee varieties in various process and also you will find some experimental process. The family typically hires around 50 - 100 pickers from the same families every year, depending on the size of the harvest, and Bernabe Aguilera one of the brothers describes a unique approach to paying the pickers: The Aguilera's pay higher prices for green cherry than they do for buckets of red, as a way of incentivizing the pickers to do an exquisite sort when they bring their cherry to be weighed. Because there are areas of the farms that are remote enough that they can’t be accessed as easily or repeatedly, the brothers know they would have fewer chances to do immediate selective picking for the ripest fruit. This way, the pickers make a better wage, and the sorting is done with care and attention so only the best cherries make it to the mill. One of the most known farm of the Aguilera Brothers is Finca Licho which was the first farm that participated in the Cup of Excellence getting the 4th place in 2007 with a Villa Sarchi Honey. Since then, the family keeps on working really hard to maintain the quality on the coffee lots and share their passion for the coffee through the cup.

Finca Toño

Finca Toño is one of the farms of the Aguilera Brothers , Finca Toño is the closest farm to the Mill and the name is coming from one of the brothers , his name is Antonio Aguilera most known as Toño , the farm is where he lives and the family started to call the farm after his name. This farm has also participated in the Costa Rican Cup of Excellence with Geisha and San Roque Varietals , also it is very well known for its attributes, adding to the coffee sweetness , cleanness and delicate acidity. Fun fact , the family is incredibly passionate about football and in this farm they built their own football pitch where the family gathers every weekend to play and enjoy the weekend with the family , during the harvest time the pitch is used to dry the natural process coffees, using the pitch as a huge drying patio , also the pitch has turned to a place where the family organizes social activities with the coffee pickers and their families during the harvest time and also community activities.

About Aguilera Coffee Traders

Dylan Aguilera is the third generation of the Aguilera Family who was introduced to the coffee world since he was just a kid by his dad and uncles. Dylan is a Licensed Q grader and became in 2023 Costa Rican Cup Tasting Champion, also Dylan has a degree on International Business and decided to start learning about coffee quality, roasting, tasting , brewing since 2018 . In 2022 decided to start commercializing the coffee for the family to get more clients and try to sell the coffee that was still in the warehouse due to pandemic shut down. That is how Dylan started to export the coffee produced by the family, looking for new opportunities, trying to create a more direct trade with importers and roasters worldwide. The idea is to grow good strong relationships with roasters having benefits for both parts, so the producer can keep growing excellent coffees and the roasters get the best cup of coffee to their final customers. It’s a hard work from the crop to the final cup.
