Finca Bella Vista, a true hidden paradise in the municipality of Pueblo Bello, in the village of Cuesta Plata, nestled in the imposing Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, is much more than just a corner of nature. It is the reflection of the effort, passion, and dedication of Jorge Eliécer Pianeta Sarabia and Ana de Jesús Guevara Galvis, two coffee growers who, through their work, transformed this farm into a place full of magic and life. Situated between 1,400 and 1,800 meters above sea level, the farm is embraced by the majestic mountains of the Sierra Nevada, offering a breathtaking panoramic view which - combined with the fresh air and stunning landscape - makes each visit a unique experience. Here, every coffee bean carries not only the effort of those who grow it, but also a piece of the region’s soul.
The Process
Ripe cherries are selectively harvested based on Brix readings to ensure optimal ripeness and sugar content. Once delivered to the processing station, the cherries undergo a meticulous selection process. This includes careful hand sorting and floatation in clean water to remove any less dense or lower-quality cherries.
The selected cherries are then dried using a slow, controlled process in vertical drying silos. These metal towers contain three stacked beds and use recycled parchment (café pergamino) as a renewable energy source. This makes the system a circular-energy solution, efficiently using coffee by-products to power the drying process. Drying typically takes between 7 and 10 days. Throughout the process, moisture content and water activity are carefully monitored to determine the exact moment the coffee is ready.
It’s important to highlight that this is one of the most ecological processing methods, as the coffee is dried naturally with the fruit skin (in cherry), avoiding the water pollution often caused by depulping and fermentation processes. Additionally, it has a social benefit: since the coffee is sold with the full cherry, the producer receives a higher income per lot.
Once drying is complete, the coffee is milled, graded, and hand-sorted with great attention to detail before being packed in GrainPro bags, ready for export.
The History of Finca Bella Vista
The story of Finca Bella Vista began in 1948, after the assassination of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, when Jorge Eliécer Pianeta Sarabia, the family’s grandfather, had to leave his homeland in search of safety. Upon arriving in Magdalena Grande, he heard that Pueblo Bello was a prosperous and peaceful place, and decided to settle there.
He fell in love with the lands of Cuesta Plata, ideal for coffee cultivation, and together with other settlers, worked hard to develop the village. It was during this process that Jorge Eliécer and his companions founded the first community action board, building a prosperous future for the community. His wife, Ana de Jesús Guevara, accompanied him every step of the way, supporting his work in the pursuit of a better life.
The farm was named Finca Bella Vista due to the stunning view it offers of the Sierra Nevada. Today, it is recognized as one of the region’s leading coffee producers, thanks to its climate and ideal soils. Our coffee stands out for its unique flavors and aromas, and we are proud to produce it organically, respecting the environment and protecting local biodiversity.
At Finca Bella Vista, we are committed to offering high-quality coffee while caring for the natural environment and supporting our community.
